Friday, June 12 Network Outage Affecting the Community Learning Center and San Elijo Campus
MiraCosta College continues to experience significant network service disruptions at the Community Learning Center (CLC) and San Elijo Campus following a fiber-optic infrastructure failure identified yesterday. Additional infrastructure issues discovered overnight have expanded the impact to include the San Elijo Campus.
At this time, students and employees should plan for network services to remain unavailable at both campuses throughout the day while repair efforts continue.
Affected Campuses
- Community Learning Center (CLC)
- San Elijo Campus
Services Currently Impacted
- On-campus Wi-Fi and internet access
- Campus phone service
- HyFlex courses and classrooms that require internet connectivity
- Other campus operations that depend on network access
Services That Remain Available
- Canvas
- SURF
- District technology systems and services accessed from locations with internet connectivity
Information Technology Services (ITS) staff are working closely with our network provider and evaluating temporary connectivity options to help restore limited service while permanent repairs are underway.
Faculty, staff, and students who normally work or attend classes at the affected campuses should anticipate limited access to on-campus technology services throughout the day, Friday, June 12, and make alternative arrangements where possible.
Employees scheduled to work at either affected campus today should coordinate with their supervisors regarding alternative work locations, including the Oceanside Campus or remote work where appropriate.
Supervisors and directors are to remain on campus at both sites to maintain basic operations and direct students seeking services to the Oceanside Campus. Campus police and facilities should also remain on campus.
We recognize the disruption this outage is causing and appreciate your patience and flexibility as restoration efforts continue.
Thursday, June 11 Community Learning Center Wi‑Fi & Internet Outage – Service Restoration Underway
We are aware that the Community Learning Center (CLC) is currently experiencing disruptions to Wi-Fi and internet services, which are also affecting campus phone operations and HyFlex instruction. The issue was first identified at approximately 7 a.m. this morning.
Information Technology Services (ITS) staff are working with our network service provider to restore connectivity as quickly as possible. Based on current information from the provider, service restoration is estimated to take approximately 4–6 hours, although this timeline may change as repair efforts continue.
At this time, the outage is impacting:
- Wi-Fi connectivity at the CLC
- Campus phone service at the CLC
- HyFlex courses and classrooms that rely on internet connectivity
- General internet access within the Community Learning Center
Importantly, the following systems remain operational and are not impacted by this outage:
- Canvas
- SURF
- District technology systems and services
While key fobs and building access systems should continue to function, some doors may automatically lock during the outage. Please plan accordingly and contact your supervisor or campus support if access issues arise.
We understand that disruptions of this nature can significantly impact teaching, learning, student services, and daily operations. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as ITS and our service provider work to restore service.
Thank you for your understanding.
